A Note to Families:
Lent is an incredibly important time in the year, it helps us to get ready for Jesus’ resurrection, the BEST THING EVER!
But Lent is also FORTY DAYS long, which means it can be tricky to do (not just for kiddos, for grown ups too). It is a long lead up because Easter is such a significant day, but it can feel overwhelming to try to do forty days worth of activities. My recommendation? Don’t do it. Find ways to make the season feel important without the pressure of needing to do something everyday, or to do it perfectly. If ever there is a time for grace, it is here and now. Doing our best is all Jesus asks, and then he’ll do even more through us.
Hopefully, the below ideas will help you and your family as you prepare your homes and hearts for Easter.

This beautifully illustrated children's book connects everyday activities—like baking bread, having a neighbor over for dinner, or un-cluttering a room—with the story of Jesus' life, showing how these simple tasks mirror the values of justice, love, and sacrifice that Jesus lived. It's not just a book about Lent; it's an invitation to experience it with all the senses, helping children understand how to embody faith and discipleship in their own unique ways.
This “flip book” includes 14 bible stories, shared with beautiful illustrations. The first side, Darkest Night, has seven stories that recount the events of Passion week ending with Christ's crucifixion and burial. Flip the book over and continue by reading Brightest Day with seven more stories that progress from Christ’s resurrection through Pentecost. Children are sure to remember the contrast between the darkness at the death of our Lord and the light-filled events from Christ’s resurrection onward.
If 40 days of lent seems a little too long this book might do the trick. It is a devotional plan for 7 days leading up to Easter.
Bonus–you can get the book online and there is also a reading plan on YouVersion as well! Just search for it on your app!
These links are ideas for you and your family to do throughout Lent as you prepare for Easter. There are certainly some great ways to incorporate the meaning of the season into each of these activities!
This is an activity that for the last 12 days of Lent. It’s kind of like a Jesse Tree during Advent, except you use a dozen plastic eggs to hold the symbols of Easter. It’s a simple but effective way to share and think through the Easter story.
